India reports more than 600 new cases in a day, many linked to a religious gathering

India has reported its biggest single-day jump in new coronavirus cases, with 601 in the past day representing a 26% rise, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The surge in cases has been linked to a religious gathering held at a New Delhi mosque in March, a senior health ministry official said.
