BC/49 lotto winner will use $2-million jackpot to pay for daughter's wedding

Surrey truck driver Baljit Singh Gill may have matched all six numbers in the Jan. 25 BC/49 lotto draw, but it’s his soon-to-be-married daughter who will end up the big winner. While picking up his oversized cheque at the B.C. Lottery Corporation offices on Friday, Gill said a big chunk of the $2-million jackpot will be used to make his daughter’s dream wedding come true. Gill, who immigrated to Canada from India in 1985, has been playing the lottery for two years and said he couldn’t stop shaking after realizing he’d won $2 million. “I scanned my ticket at the Evergreen Mall,” he said. “I saw the two, and all the zeros, and I called the clerk over to check and make sure.” Along with paying for the nuptials, the Fleetwood dad says he will be able to pay off some debt and tuck some money away for the future.
