Speaking to media shortly after the four Nirbhaya convicts were hanged, the victim's mother, Asha Devi, thanked the judiciary and the government for ensuring that the rapists of her daughter were executed. Shortly after the Supreme Court refused to grant relief to one of the convicts in the Nirbhaya gang-rape and murder case, the Solicitor General of India, Tushar Mehta, said in a statement, "Our judicial system and executive government has ensured justice for all daughters of the country. Pawan Gupta is one of the four convicts who is scheduled to be hanged at 5.30 am today for raping and savagely assaulting a 23-year-old physiotherapy intern in a moving bus in south Delhi on December 16, 2012. SC will shortly hear the petition filed by a 2012 Delhi gangrape case death row convict, Pawan Gupta, challenging rejection of his mercy plea by the President. According to a report by news agency PTI, Mukesh Kumar Singh said there is a provision in law that a woman can seek divorce on the ground of her husband being charged with a sexual offence. Delhi's Patiala House Court, which had earlier issued death warrants for the four convicts in the Nirbhaya gang-rape and murder case, is currently hearing a plea seeking a stay on the execution.
